Seo, Keyword Research and Niche Finding

Success will greatly depend on whether or not you choose the right niche to begin with but generally speaking any niche you create a website for should be based on a product or a service that you or some one else can provide. We are looking for desperate buyers, not freebie seekers.  So what we need to do is target keyword phrases with commercial intent, or keywords based on products and services. This way we filter out the freebie seeker naturally. The keyword phrases we are going to use may be as long as seven or eight words.  It actually does not matter how long or short these phrases are as long as people are searching these terms and the terms make sense.

As an example I will start with a seed keyword or phrase. For this example, it is going to be

-Get rid of

Ok so you take a free keyword research tool or payed one and type this phrase in to see what we come up with.  Ok I found lots of searches for spyware and adware which are not considered a true “micro niche” as they are very competitive.

However, I actually found some very interesting phrases that would be perfect to target. It is important to note that any keyword you find needs to have sufficient search volume so as to be worth while.  I would say anything bringing in over 300 searches/month is worth going for.

Here is one phrase which you could use:

“how to get rid of woodpeckers”

Now what we do is find other kewywords based around that phrase. For example:

- Get rid of unwanted woodpeckers
- Woodpeckers get rid of
- Woodpecker repellant
- Woodpecker damage
- How to stop a woodpecker
- getting rid of woodpeckers

Now to check if this is a viable niche we need tofind out two things:

1. If there are actually willing buyers in this niche- To find this out we can use a checking tool for detecting online commercial intention.

2. If there is little competition-  I have found that as a general rule anything below 20 000 competitors is a market I think I can dominate.  Now what do I mean by this and how do I check it?

Well say for the term – Get rid of woodpeckers….. I would type into google in inverted commas the particular search term I am looking for. In this case I would type it into google like this….

“Get rid of woodpeckers”

It  comes up with 3870 competing pages which is not that competitive so we could target this niche if we wanted.

Next what we do is buy a domain name that has our main keyword in it and then set up a blog in wordpress format that is ready to add content to it. So in this case a good domain name will be getridofwoodpeckers dot com. It is imperative that you get a domain name that has 30 characters or less for Seo purposes.

Another thing you need to consider for seo reasons is the amount of hyphens in the domain. As a general rule google does not like this much so try not to put them between each word in your domain.

NB. If you can’t get a .com domain the next best thing is a .net domain.
