Well Web 2.0 is a term that basically describes the new interactive Internet and the forever evolving web based technologies that allow more and more people to get involved with websites. The days are long gone where all you could do online is read content. Now you can play games, watch videos, interact with your friends, attend seminars, post comments, join communties and so much more.

From an internet marketing perspective, these innovations have been awesome. There are a huge number of web 2.0 sites out there, and they are all begging people to get involved. This is great for affiliate marketers as it now makes it easy for us to get backlinks straight to our sites.

In the past you had to worry about contacting other website owners and send out hundreds of emails to arrange reciprocal links but with web 2.0 that strategy of getting links is dissapearing fast.

There are hundreds of resources out there that will put your link onto authority sites that the search engines like but what’s even better is that as you add new content to  yoursites, the search engines are extremely quick to pick it up and you will get good  traffic coming in to your website.

Just to demonstrate how big Web 2.0 sites are,  for a very long time the top three most-visited sites in the world were Google, Yahoo and MSN.

All of that has now changed and  if you look at the U.S. Alexa rankings today, you’ll see that MSN has been bumped down that list, and the third most visited site is now MySpace, followed by YouTube, followed by Facebook. These are all Web 2.0 sites that generate massive amounts of traffic.

The big difference this makes to us is that, instead of fighting your way to get into Google, with web 2.0 sites all you have to do is submit your content. If it is formatted correctly and tightly focused around well researched keywords, then you’ll start getting traffic immediately, and if you’re still focused on the search engines, the good news is that they really do like these web 2.0 sites.
